Fourth and Fifth Grade ELA
Who is your favorite saint?
I am so excited to have you in my class this year. Fourth and Fifth grades are such special years. As a fourth grader, you transition into the "big hallway" and are challenged in new and exciting ways. As fifth graders, you get to reflect on how much you have grown in the past year, and set goals for the next few years in middle school. I pray that during your time in our classroom you grow to love both Jesus, and the gift of reading, more! I can't wait to show you all of the incredible things you are capable of with the help of two simple tools: prayer and books.
Thank you for choosing Trinity Regional School! We are going to have a wonderful school year. As parents, the Church reminds us that you are your child's primary educator. Therefore, I sincerely thank you for entrusting them with teachers here at Trinity. It is a beautiful honor and responsibilty to help form their minds, hearts, and moral compasses.
For this school year, all communication for our class will be through Google Classroom and via email. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you are in need of assistance navigating our class pages.
Academically, fourth and fifth grade students will continue to develop and expand literacy skills in ELA class. We will work to deepen our reading comprehension capacities by targeting these specific skills throughout the year. Fourth grade students will learn to use strategies that prepare them for success on the NY State ELA tests taken in the spring. Fifth grade students will be challenged to build upon those previoulsy learned strategies to interact with more complex texts. Both grades will participate in formal writing workshops in which they are explicitly taught writing styles, genres, rules, and then given opportunites to move through the writing process with teacher and peer review. I can't wait to see the way in which our students grow as readers and writers this year!
