Welcome to Art!
Mrs. Rahner is excited to be teaching Art this year at Trinity Regional School. She has taught Art in the Diocese of Rockville Centre for many years and is currently also teach Art at Holy Angels Regional School.
She has directed Art programs for all ages at a variety of art centers such as Owl Art Center and Haven Art. She also volunteers her time as she can to teach Art classes for organizations such as the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary in Oyster Bay. She enjoyed teaching a watercolor painting class there, with a real screech owl as our art model! This is still a beautiful memory of hers, as she adore all kinds of birds.
She also spent most of her summers since 2002 teaching Art at camps including directing Ceramics for seven summers in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. She enjoyed teaching the pottery wheel so much, with campers making their own functional dish ware. She also loved directing Ceramics for Sunrise Day Camp, a wonderful camp for children with cancer.
In Art class at Trinity Regional School this year, students will learn the elements and principles of Art. They will be inspired by a variety of famous artists, while learning about the artists’ creative process and life. Often, students will create their own artwork in the style of the artists we study. I encourage students to add their own individual details to make the artwork their own.
Younger Art students will often be inspired by Art related books. They will use the stories as the motivation to create their own artwork in the theme of the book. We will also incorporate songs and movement into our Art learning for children.
