Art
Nursery - 8th
I’m excited to be teaching Art in grades Nursery-8th. I joined the Trinity family in September 2020. I taught Art for four years prior to coming to Trinity in the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
I have directed Art programs for all ages at a variety of art centers such as Owl Art Center and Haven Art. I also volunteer my time as I can to teach Art classes for organizations such as the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary in Oyster Bay. I enjoyed teaching a watercolor painting class there, with a real screech owl as our art model! This is still a beautiful memory of mine, as I adore all kinds of birds. I have a pet cockatoo and two doves.
I also spent most of my summers since 2002 teaching Art at camps. A favorite of mine was directing Ceramics for seven summers in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I enjoyed teaching the pottery wheel so much, with my campers making their own functional dishware. I also made my own pottery glazes from scratch.
In Art class at Trinity Regional School this year, students will learn the elements and principles of Art. They will be inspired by a variety of famous artists, while learning about the artists’ creative process and life. Often, students will create their own artwork in the style of the artists we study. I encourage students to add their own individual details to make the artwork their own.
Younger Art students will often be inspired by Art related books. They will use the stories as the motivation to create their own artwork in the theme of the book. We will also incorporate songs and movement into our Art learning for children.
